Welcome to Beacon. By accessing or using this platform, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use Beacon.

1. Who We Are

Beacon is operated by The Hidden Door LLC, a technology company. References to "we," "us," or "our" mean The Hidden Door LLC.

2. Your Account

You may register using GitHub, Google, or Discord OAuth. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for all activity that occurs under it. You must be at least 13 years old to use this platform.

You may also create personal API tokens to access Beacon programmatically. You are responsible for keeping your tokens secure. Tokens do not expire unless you revoke them.

3. User-Generated Content

You retain ownership of content you post — forum threads, replies, scripts, themes, and documentation. By submitting content, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display and distribute it within the platform.

Scripts submitted to the Beacon script registry are reviewed before publishing. We reserve the right to reject or remove any script that we determine to be harmful, deceptive, or in violation of these terms. Approval does not constitute endorsement.

5. Moderation & Trust

We reserve the right to remove any content, suspend any account, or restrict access to the platform for any reason, including but not limited to violations of these terms or conduct we determine to be harmful to the community.

Accounts have a trust tier (new or trusted) and a strike count. Repeated violations may result in escalating restrictions up to and including a permanent ban.

6. Online Presence

Beacon displays your online status and last active time to other community members. By using the platform, you consent to this visibility. Your login status, last active time, and profile information (username, avatar, bio) are visible to other authenticated users.

7. SMS Messaging Program

Message frequency: Varies. You may receive channel invitations, login verification codes, and platform notifications. Typically fewer than 5 messages per month.

By providing your phone number to Beacon or responding to an invitation SMS, you consent to receive text messages from Beacon (The Hidden Door LLC). You can opt out at any time:

8. Slack Workspace Migration

Beacon offers a tool to migrate Slack workspaces to IRC. If you authorize this tool, we will access your Slack workspace data (channels, members, and topics) via OAuth. You choose which channels and users to include before any migration is executed. By using this feature, you represent that you have the authority to export data from the Slack workspace you connect.

9. Third-Party Services

Beacon relies on third-party services to operate, including GitHub, Google, and Discord (authentication), Twilio (SMS), Slack (workspace migration), Supabase (file storage), and Google (fonts and analytics). Your use of Beacon constitutes acceptance of interacting with these services. See our Privacy Policy for details on what data is shared with each.

10. No Warranty

Beacon is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. Your use of the platform is at your own risk.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Hidden Door LLC shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of this platform.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms at any time. When we do, we'll update the effective date above. Continued use of Beacon after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
